#67 Louka Parry – Passion, Education & Wisdom

The incredible and deeply passionate human being on this week’s episode of the Humans of Purpose Podcast is Louka Parry. He’s Director of Academy and Training at Education Changemakers, and is a self proclaimed “action-based optimist”.

After the passing of his grandfather, Louka was confronted by the realisation of how short life is, and developed an insatiable thirst for learning. His life motto, which sums him up as a person quite well, is “to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life“.

He became Principal at a school at 27, and was also awarded South Australian Inspirational Public Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2012.

Louka’s objective is to bring innovation into education, recognising that the world is changing very rapidly, the education system must transform itself and utilise emerging practices to equip children with essential skill sets for life. He says that there is true need to nurture adaptability and agility, “soft skills that can be put in any context“.

Louka’s view on learning and education is rooted in a very human perspective. During the chat, he talks about how each individual must be perceived as a human being who desires wellbeing and flourishing as much as learning. This sets up a “strong ethical base for humanity’s best interest“, adds Louka.

Throughout the chat he spoke so eloquently and shared so many great (and applicable) ideas, you’ll have to listen to the episode yourself. To close, he shared a note from Mahatma Gandhi, “live as if you were to die tomorrow; learn as if you were to live forever“.

The lens that Louka looks at life through is definitely one we will adopt. If you liked our conversation with Louka, do subscribe by clicking this link, give us a shiny 5-star rating. We really would love to hear more about your thoughts about the show.
